In confidential and open discussion groups, parents can discuss their questions, concerns and experiences on parenting issues in a relaxed atmosphere and find solutions together. Parents get to know different attitudes and solutions and develop their own attitudes and possible courses of action - without external instruction. The project offers parents a platform for an open-ended exchange of experiences and mutual support.

The discussions take place in a private setting. A host invites four to eight other parents to their home. The meetings are moderated by parent talk moderators who are mothers and fathers themselves. They attend the discussion groups and help to talk about parenting issues and find solutions together. They are trained and receive an expense allowance.

The Elterntalk NRW project is aimed at parents of all ages and is free of charge. If desired, the exchange can take place in the respective family languages.

In Bonn, Elterntalk is implemented by the Fachstelle für interkulturellen Bildung und Beratung - FiBB e.V. (opens in a new tab)on behalf of the Office for Children, Youth and Family of the City of Bonn. The regional representative in Bonn is Ms. Kheir El Din.

The aim of Elterntalk NRW is to empower parents to better protect their children in terms of educational child and youth protection (Section 14 SGB VIII), to offer them support in their day-to-day parenting and to strengthen their confidence in their actions.

• Exchange: In the parent talk groups, parents have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other parents, recognize similar situations and gain new perspectives.
• Support: The open discussion atmosphere and empathetic moderation offer parents support in dealing with parenting issues and help them to find new solutions.
• Networks: Elterntalk NRW promotes the development of a supportive network in which parents can support each other and benefit from the experiences of others.
