0228 770 is the central telephone number of the Bonn city administration, which is called around 1100 times a day. Employees specially trained for the Bonn telephone service not only transfer callers with the help of a dedicated knowledge management system, but also provide the requested information directly in more than 80 percent of cases.
Higher costs due to individual telephone providers
Calls to the central telephone number of the Bonn city administration may incur higher costs caused by individual telephone providers. The city administration expressly points this out due to individual complaints.
The City of Bonn generally offers the services of the citizens' telephone in the 0228 area code at the local rate and does not charge an additional service fee. However, individual telephone providers do not charge a local rate for dialing city numbers, but instead charge higher telephone costs as a so-called service number. The legality of this procedure is being investigated.
The city asks all citizens to note that no announcement about higher service charges is made before the call itself, as the Bonn city administration can always be reached at local rates. If the respective telephone provider charges extra for a service number, the aggrieved party should contact the respective company directly.

With a data protection-compliant chatbot based on artificial intelligence (AI), the city of Bonn is expanding its online information offering, particularly with regard to municipal services. An AI-supported assistant is now available on the home page www.bonn.de and the overview page of services, which can be operated easily and intuitively like a messenger chat and specializes entirely in services and information for citizens and visitors to the city.
Enquirers receive answers around the clock via the chatbot in 95 languages - including plain language.

Letterbox to meet deadlines
There is a night mailbox next to the main entrance of the City Hall at Berliner Platz 2. It is used to enable the submission of legal appeals as well as the delivery of other documents addressed to the City of Bonn outside office and opening hours.
