The city of Bonn sees itself as an inclusive community. This means that we want and enable the self-determined participation of all citizens in life in the city. In doing so, we recognize the diversity of people and their needs.

People with disabilities make an important contribution to the general well-being and diversity of society. Their unrestricted participation will lead to considerable progress in the development of society.

"Disability" is not primarily the deficit of an individual. It arises above all "from the interaction between people with impairments and attitudinal and environmental barriers". It is therefore an essential task of this participation plan to remove these barriers.

Our aim is to make all areas of life in the city fully accessible, to enable and encourage everyone to exercise their rights and freedoms (empowerment) and to strengthen everyone's responsibility for the community (responsibility).

Living mission statement:
During the implementation of the "Disability Policy Participation Plan for the City of Bonn", the mission statement will be reviewed and may adapt and change.

The implementation of the Disability Policy Participation Plan for the City of Bonn is designed as a process.

The entire administration of the City of Bonn and its municipal enterprises are continuously working on implementing the recommendations of the Disability Participation Plan.

The political bodies of the City of Bonn are regularly informed about the implementation status of the recommendations for action.

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities forms the basis for the "Disability Policy Participation Plan for the City of Bonn", which can be downloaded here in plain language.

The tasks
The project advisory board accompanies and steers the implementation process. Progress is discussed at regular meetings and new proposals for the next steps are developed.
