The state of NRW has obliged the city of Bonn - like every other municipality - to carry out these so-called calibrations on a regular basis. They therefore take place once a year. The following areas are affected by the calibration work in 2024 in the specified period between August 21 and October 11
- Am Güsgensberg (Bad Godesberg district)
- Karl-Lambertz-Straße (Beuel district)
- Herzogsfreudenweg (Bonn district)
- Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße (Bonn district)
- Johanniterstraße (Bonn district)
- Eduard-Otto-Straße (Bonn district)
- Burbacher Straße (Bonn city district)
- Hausdorffstraße (Bonn city district)
- Wolterstraße (Bonn district)
- Weidengarten (Bonn district)
For operational and weather-related reasons, no exact times can be given for the calibrations. The Civil Engineering Office asks for your understanding.
Basements must always be protected against backwater
Due to the calibration, backwater occurs in the connected sewer system. This corresponds to the normal operating state of a sewer system during heavy rainfall. However, if the cellar or lower-lying rooms are adequately protected against backwater from the sewer system, it is not possible for water to enter.
Consult a specialist plumbing company
As the damage caused by basement flooding could be considerable, the city's drainage regulations generally require homeowners to secure all drainage points below the backflow level (top edge of the road or ground). If a house does not have appropriate protective devices, the city advises owners to contact a local specialist plumbing company. They can find out how to effectively protect against backwater from the sewer network or whether existing facilities are sufficient or insufficient.
