City of Bonn

Twinning Bonn

European connections with the aim of improving mutual understanding were particularly important after the Second World War. The two cities involved are therefore delighted that Bonn and Oxford were able to enter into a town twinning agreement back in 1947 - one of the oldest between a German and a foreign city. But the borough also maintains twinning links with other European cities.

In 1991, a twinning agreement was signed with Budapest's Budafok district in Hungary, and since 1996 Bonn has been on friendly terms with the Polish city of Opole.

Groups and institutions from Bonn are cordially invited to travel to the partner cities in order to establish long-term relationships with a local institution. Trips of this kind can be subsidized by the Bonn district council on application.
