City of Bonn

Stages. Theater.

All the theaters working in Bonn make up the entirety of Bonn's diverse theater life. The various theaters produce productions of spoken word, music and dance theater. Festivals round off the program.

Bonn's tradition as a theater city goes back to the time of the electors. In 1826, the art-loving citizens built their own first theater.

In 1965, the new Bonn Theater building was inaugurated on the banks of the Rhine. Today, its 1037-seat main theater is used almost exclusively by the opera and also provides a stage for international dance guest performances.

Schauspiel Bonn has its own theater in Bad Godesberg as well as another venue in the Werkstattbühne in the opera house.
